Mental Health Awareness Week 2025 is this week 12-18 May, and this year, we are celebrating the theme of community. This week is dedicated to highlighting the importance of community in supporting mental health and well-being.
What is a community and why is it important?
A community is a group of people brought together through something which they share. It can be found with either the people who live around us or with people we connect with through similar values and interests. You might find your community at school or work, through your religion, at a sports club.
Being part of a community is vital for our mental health. Communities provide us with a sense of belonging, safety, and support. They remind us that we are not alone and that we have people to turn to in times of need. Strong connections with others can help us thrive, both mentally and physically
The Role of Schools
Schools are at the heart of our communities. They are places where students can learn, grow, and build meaningful relationships. By fostering a sense of community within schools, we can create an environment where students feel supported and valued. This can have a profound impact on their mental health and overall well-being.
With exam season starting in schools and colleges it is important to ensure that everyone feels supported and looks out for one another during this time. Fostering a supportive network with each other during the start of exams will bring together a community of support.
